Having the privilege of growing up watching and learning from Billy has been a game changer. His compassion for the sports, knowledge of the situation and love of the competition has been inspiring, whether it was half-rubber, baseball, football,it was all in and best effort every time.

Like many old friends I was fortunate to play baseball with Billy ! He was a special person, a true team player I have wonderful memories of him.

If I had to pick someone to share a foxhole with during a war, I would pick Billy Port for two reasons. During battles he would fight as hard as anyone. The rest of the time he would keep me laughing. Friendship with Billy was like an old, reliable path that I could come back to, despite being separated from him by time and distance, and feel like we never left off. So sorry to here of Billy's passing. We were teammates at NCSU playing baseball together. I had not seen Billy since graduating but was hopeful he would be at the 2019 reunion. So very young and sad-rest in peace Bill!
