Like so many people who knew Joey through his love of sailing, I want to share my deepest condolences to his family and friends. The sailing community mourns with you and is here to support you. - John Pearce, US Sailing

I remember Joey from his youngest days in Freeport after John and June moved there. The family came to visit Anita and Joe and there would be Joey running around their yard, and I could see and hear and the incredible pride, joy and love they felt for him. Over the many years of our friendship with Joe and Anita we had the opportunity to watch Joey grow up into the kind and polite young man he was. Anyone meeting

You all are in my prayers and my thoughts. I did not know Joey but my heart goes out to everyone who loved and knew him. I live on the river where the accident occurred and I am so saddened that this fine young man lost his life in this way. I am a Christian and I know from my walk with Jesus that He just needed him. This realization does not make your loss any less felt. Hopefully in

John, June, Mallerie and Claire, your loss of Joey is incomprehensible. The love your family has for each other was so present last summer in Maine for Anita's funeral. I'm grateful to have had that moment with Joey and all of you.

Unable are the Loved to die
For Love is Immortality,
Nay, it is Deity --

Unable they that love -- to die
For Love reforms Vitality
Into Divinity.

Just you don't really know me but my husband was your cousin. I just want to say my prayers go out to you and your family at this time.

Joey, you were the champion of all sailors in Casco Bay. It was a pleasure knowing you and we loved you with all our hearts and will miss you dearly. I want to thank you very much for being such a great loyal friend to my son Parker and I enjoyed skiing and sailing with you for all those years. I'm so sorry you had to make the voyage to Heaven prematurely but remember to let the Holy Father win a couple of the races just to stay on his good side! Take care and rest in peace!
