Sorry to hear of Nan's passing and for your precious and irreplaceable loss of life as I know a mother's healing hand, love and touch can never be replaced. Nan's mother Julia Iris Grubbs Birt was an older sister of my father, Algie Morgan Grubbs (my father was the baby of 15 children!). While it has been many decades since I last saw the Ashley Birt family and your mother (my first cousin) and father, I can vividly see the image of Aunt Iris in your mother's photo. Your aunt Gloria and I were both born in 1945 and shared many bonds during our learning and growing in the Barnwell County environment. During my formative education in Barnwell, college days at Clemson and during my military career, I was able to visit most of my cousins, including your mother and father, before I moved from SC. I will always fondly remember them and always enjoyed the annual Grubbs' reunions as it was a delight to see everyone. May God's merciful hand guide each of you as you lovingly remember the sterling legacy of your mother. My prayers are with you.

Brenda - I was reading the newspaper when I came across the notice of your mother's passing. Reading the write up, I quickly recognized your name and the names of Jonathan and Brandon. I was your next door neighbor in Savannah, Georgia for 2 years. Jonathan played with my children, Juli and Bubba many times.

I first met Nan when she began attending Bethany United Methodist in Summerville. She and I were pewmates in Church at the 11:15 services.
She joined our small Sunday School Class called "Kate Howard Cross Class" and we all enjoyed her friendship immensely. She and I talked by phone for many years and when I called monthly to remind her of our Senior Adults group, "Happy Hearts" meetings she would attend and we shared a table with other Sunday Class members,
