Lon Douglas Hoops Obituary

Lon Douglas Hoops, 69, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Teresa Ann Nemeth Hoops entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 17, 2021. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Bethlehem Deliverance Worship Ministries, 1 University Drive, North Charleston, SC. The family will gather with friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at a later date, in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.

Lon was born May 14, 1952 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, son of the late Melvin Hoops and Delores Ander Hoops. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy. Lon was a Master Diver in both deep sea and cold water, as well as a dive medic for NOAA. He even dove at the North Pole! He was a proud member of MENSA and was on the Board of Directors for the Ashley River Fire Department. Lon was also a physical therapist who treated and cared for Greyhound dogs in the racing industry.

He is survived by his wife; one sister, Kimber Leah Hoops of Rapid City, SD; two brothers, Greg Hoops and Brian Hoops, both of Rapid City, SD; father-in-law, Carl J. Nemeth; three brother-in-laws, Knute Nemeth of Coos Bay, OR, Tom Nemeth of San Antonio, TX and Rock Nemeth of North Charleston, SC; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Blaze James Nemeth and step-mother, Earlene Lewis Hoops.
