What an inspiration he was! He was a Teddy Bear at heart. I so admired him. He gave me a chance at a career that not very many women had ever been in. RIP Sir. You will be missed.

Speaking collectively, we were each saddened to learn of Sherwood's recent death and wish to add our condolences to Doris, Andy, Craig and each member of their families. Doris's mother, Effie Jane McLean Gray, was a sister of our mother, Virginia McLean Glenn. The Gray siblings - Doris, James & Charles - were an important part of our McLean family experiences. We treasure our visits to the McLean & Gray farms thru the years - especially so since we grew up in Charlotte NC.
We came to know Sherwood through his relationship and marriage of many years to Doris and quickly came to accept him as part of the family. We each remember him as a loving & devoted husband to Doris, as a caring & attentive father to their 3 sons, and as a fixture at extended family gatherings, meals and visits. We also knew him as an occasional, avid hunting companion of the McLean, Gray, & Glenn bird hunters. Sherwood was always interested in who we were as individuals and what we were doing in our lives. We especially remember him for his sense of humor, often joking & smiling - a bit of a tease at times, but always one that was caring, fun, & appropriate. Sherwood would occasionally tease his mother-in-law, his "Miss Effie", but always in a loving & respectful way. He was always a gentleman.
Over time, the older generation of McLeans, Grays, & Glenns passed on; our visits to the farm, and their even rarer visits to Charlotte declined as did our personal relationships & connections. All of us had lives and families of our own that took precedence. Regrettably, that era has now come & gone, and we are each left with just our memories. Any opportunity to gather and mourn, to reminisce, to reconnect, to greet, is now lost due to circumstances - a pandemic - beyond our control. Our thoughts are with you as you celebrate & reflect on Sherwood's unique life and all that he meant to each of us. We wish you healing & love.

My condolences to the McKenzie family. Mr. McKenzie was a great leader. He was hard on us at times but he really made PYA/Monarch a place we all were proud to be employed. He will never be forgotten.

What a giant of a man Mr. McKenzie was in the foodservice industry. He had such a strong presence and also a huge heart . He gave me a chance in the business and I will forever be grateful. He had a tough exterior but a wonderful kindness. I do remember times when he would "chew" you out for good reason but also before you left his presence he encouraged you. Again he was a giant and will be missed greatly. Prayers for the McKenzie family. Al Deal

I was saddened to hear of Sherwood's death. His wife Doris and I went through 12 years of school together, and I met the love of her life, Sherwood . Sherwood was a fine man and an avid reader. I always admired his determination to do well in life ,which he did, and the love and goodness he shared with his family. He loved people and I know he will be missed by many. My love and sympathy to you Doris, and of course to each of yours and Sherwood's family.
