Condolence & Memory Journal

My memories of Forrest Edward Bonner
I first met Forrest when my husband and I moved from New York to Los Angeles because of his job offer with an aeronautical engineering company. My New York school friend Marika who worked as an airline stewardess after graduation had settled in Los Angeles. There she had met and soon thereafter married Forrest Bonner, an aeronautical engineer with the McDonnell Douglas Corp. After we had settled in, I contacted Marika. We were invited to dinner at their Hollywood Hills apartment which had once belonged to a famous Hollywood movie star. We were excited to meet since both of our husbands were aeronautical engineers and Marika and I were both City College graduates. That evening Forrest cooked our first California barbecue meal and we learned how casual life in California was. We developed a long and lasting friendship as a result. Many more enjoyable social interactions ensued during the coming years in which Forrest again did his magic with the grill. Forrest was truly a great guy, with a sense of humor, very dependable and a great host as well as a wood-working artist as his later years. Laima

I knew Forrest during the latter half of his life. In addition to his talents as a chef and great host, he was a good friend to my husband, and Forrest provided support to me during my husband's illness helping with transportation. The three of us had many luncheons at the Hotel Bel-Air after doctor's appointments. What a good time we had in spite of the reason we were there. After he moved we texted back and forth - even the morning of his passing. How sad I felt - just one more text please - one more of something....I will miss him very much. My heart goes out to the family - the sudden passing is a great shock. A quote I like: "Our loved ones never truly leave us.. they live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared, and the love they brought into our lives. We will miss you. Gail
