Alice Everette Wood Spink entered into eternal rest on February 17, 2020 in hospice care at The Villages in Summerville, SC. Alice was born May 30, 1945 in Charleston, SC to Francis Everett Wood and Alice Virginia Witham Wood. She attended James Simons Elementary School and graduated from Rivers High School in 1963. She attended the College of Charleston. On February 4, 1967 she married Lieutenant Kenneth Spink, U.S. Army, whom she met in October 1962 on a blind date at The Citadel Ring Hop. They celebrated their fifty-third wedding anniversary this year. In more than forty years as an Army wife, Alice moved more than twenty times and resided for twenty-one years in Germany and Japan. Upon Kenneth's retirement from government service, at Torii Station in Okinawa, Japan, in October 2007, she received a Commander's Award for Civilian Service recognizing her two decades of service.

Alice worked as a library assistant at the Charleston County Library while in high school and college, and was employed as an Army librarian in Frankfurt, Bremerhaven and Heidelberg, Germany. In two tours at Fort Drum, New York, Alice worked at the NY State Library Resource Center and as librarian at the Crosby Public Library in Antwerp, NY. She also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Assistant and served as a child advocate in many cases in northern New York. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority while at the College of Charleston and a member of the American Association of University Women.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth, son David, daughter Laura, sister Terry Williams, six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Her Requiem Mass will be held Saturday, 29 February 2020 at the Church of the Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Avenue at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Fleming Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Communion Endowment Fund, 218 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403, or to the American Cancer Society.
