Artis Albert McSwain, 75, of Daniel Island and Clarkesville, Georgia, husband of Vondene Sizemore McSwain, died Monday, January 1, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 4:00 pm. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Saturday in the Mount Pleasant Chapel from 3:00 until time of the service.

Artis was born May 4, 1942, in Irwin County, Georgia, son of the late Willie Abner McSwain and Dora Sumner McSwain. He was an ordained deacon and a member of Hills Crossing Baptist Church in Clarkesville. He was a retired sales representative for agricultural equipment and a longtime member of the American Independent Manufacturing Representative Association. He and his younger son, Art, owned and operated McSwain Marketing. For over 35 years, one of his favorite work events was attending the unique Sunbelt Ag Expo in Georgia as an exhibitor. He had formed many lasting and dear friendships with his clientele in the Southeast.

He was best known as "Gramps" to everyone. He sincerely loved all people and never met a stranger. He felt his most valuable asset was his family. He loved his family unselfishly and was so proud of them. He also enjoyed fishing, baseball, gospel music, and rocking in his favorite chair on the front porch.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vondene McSwain of Daniel Island, SC and Clarkesville, GA; and four children- Drs. Myra and Arif Kamran of Colorado Springs, CO; Drs. Robert and Anita McSwain of Alexandria, VA; Dr. Arlene and John Oldham of Isle of Palms, SC; and Art and Ashley McSwain of Kathleen, GA; and six grandchildren- Zach Kamran, Maggie Oldham, Kate McSwain, Annaliese McSwain, Molly James McSwain and Jack Oldham.
