She was born in Greenville, NC on April 30, 1938 the daughter of the late Roy Ray Robinson and the late Mary Jane Robinson (Truett). She lost her father at an early age and was fortunate to have the late Cecil C. Truett as her step-father growing up and through the majority of her adult life. Her family moved to North Charleston, SC where she attended North Charleston High School. After high school, she met and was courted by the late Ronald D. Merritt. He swept her off her feet and married her on August 2, 1959. She worked for Southern Bell as an operator and then chose to remain home and raise her two children. She devoted her life to teaching, mentoring, and loving her son and daughter and their many friends.
