Bobby Joe Sexton, 87, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of the late Diana Newell Sexton, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 14, 2021. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 18, 2021 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC at 2:00 pm. Please wear masks and social distance. Interment with military honors will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Bobby was born May 31, 1934 in Clinton, South Carolina, son of the late J.T. Sexton and the late Samantha Wilson Sexton. A veteran of the United States Army, Bobby served from 1956-1958, and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of Coastal Shores Baptist Church and served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of Charleston Cruising Club and the Liars Club. Bobby enjoyed cruising on the open water every weekend and was known as Captain Bob. He was an active member of the Elks Club for 49 years and played in golf tournaments for charity, even scoring a hole in one. He and his long-time girlfriend, Gerrie Rozier enjoyed dancing every Friday night, especially to the Texas Two Step.
He is survived by his son, Nathaniel Wayne Sexton (Cindy) of Hanahan, SC; daughter, Wanda Sexton Gilbert (Don) of Mount Pleasant, SC; stepson, Mitchell Newell (Sandy); stepdaughter, Gayle Anderson (Bobby); honorary daughter, Beverly Elvis Lewis of Mount Pleasant, SC; two grandchildren, Lauren Michele Cooley (Bill) and Nathaniel McLean Gilbert; four great-grandchildren, Hailey Cheyanne Reddish, Brian Carson Reddish, Dalton Paul Cooley, and Ava Kate Cooley; first wife, Juanita Murray; five siblings, Frank Lee Sexton, Martha Ruth Sexton Wright (Wayne), Wilson Buster Sexton, Jimmie Ray Sexton (Joyce), and Mary Jordan Sexton (Russ); and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Clements Sexton and brother, J.D. Sexton.
