Brantley Denmark "Denny" Thomas, Jr., 84, of Wando, South Carolina, husband of Kathleen Bendell "Kathy" Thomas, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 21, 2018. A Service of Thanksgiving for the Full Life and Resurrection of Denny Thomas will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in All Saints Lutheran Church, 2107 N. Highway 17, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.

Denny was born on November 20, 1933 in Dade City, Florida, son of the late Brantley Denmark Thomas, Sr. and Elizabeth Tidwell Thomas. He was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1955, and a member of the Summerall Guard. He completed a Master's degree at the University of Florida, and a doctoral degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He dedicated his entire career to Westvaco Corporation, retiring after 37 years as Sr. Vice President.

Denny's spirit of community service led him to volunteer leadership positions in a number of local organizations. He served on the boards of Roper St. Francis Hospital, the United Way, the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, and the Citadel Foundation. He was also a member of the German Friendly Society, the Rotary Club of Charleston, the Carolina Yacht Club, and St. Thomas Point Homeowners Association. In recognition of his community service and dedication to civic endeavors, Denny was awarded The Order of the Palmetto, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow.

Denny was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served as a member of the Vestry, and a current member of All Saints Lutheran Church, where he served in a number of leadership positions, including Chair of the Finance Committee, member of the Mission Endowment Fund Trustees, and Pastor's Advisory Team. He was also actively involved in SC Lutheran Via de Cristo, enjoyed photography and travel, and spending precious time with his family and many close friends.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy; his children, Brantley D. Thomas III, Lisa Thomas (Robert Payne), Rudy Thomas (Marguerite Zakhia), John Thomas (Karen Pratt), and Sallie Thomas (Anthony Black); his step-children, Arthur Brown (Lauren), and David Brown (Ely Dowds); his grandchildren, Liz Anderson (MJ Boyd), Charlie and Abby Seinsheimer, Mary Jordan Thomas, Sullivan and Finn Brown; and his sister, Ted Byrd (Richard). Denny is survived by many, many wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ, whom he cherished deeply as his extended family.
