Coach Daniel Coury, 76, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Frances Carolyn Clifton Coury entered into eternal rest Monday, November 28, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, December 4, 2016 in Summerall Chapel, The Citadel, 171 Moultrie Street at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Coach Coury was born November 12, 1940 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, son of the late Daniel A. Coury and Kathryn Alex Coury. He was a graduate of The Citadel Class of 1962. Daniel was a retired coach and educator having served as the former principal of Middleton and Summerville High School. During his time at the Citadel he lived football! He was a member of the first Southern Conference Championship Team and Tangerine Bowl Champion While serving as principal at Middleton High School, with the help of an exceptional administration and faculty, Middleton achieved a First Place in The School of the Year Program.Daniel was a member of The South Carolina Association of School Administrators and a past President of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He also served as a Commissioner for St. Andrews Parks and Playgrounds. He was member of the South Carolina Athletics Administrators Association with an induction into 2016 Hall of Fame and was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son, Daniel J. Coury, Jr., (Lisa) of Charleston, SC; daughter, Stephanie C. Hammond (Chris) of Charleston, SC; sister, Donna Vincler of Indiana, PA; two brothers, Douglas Coury of Saxonburg, PA, Dennis Coury of New Kensington, PA; four grandchildren he loved with all his heart, Kimberly Susan Coury, Daniel James Coury III., Brittanie Lee Hammond, Aubrie Noelle Hammond. Dan leaves behind many beloved nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased in death by an infant brother.
