Dorothy Moorer Rigsby

Dorothy "Dot" Moorer Rigsby, widow of Charles Mitchell Rigsby, Jr. died May 5, 2018 at the age of 93. Her funeral service will be held Thursday May 10, 2018 in Old St. Andrews Parish Church, 604 Ashley River Road at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Wednesday May 9, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC, 29401. Private burial at Bethany Cemetery.

Dorothy, born October 16, 1924, was the daughter of the late Alfred Edward Moorer Sr. and Frances Guthke Moorer. She graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology where she was also a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, a cheerleader, and a member of both the women's basketball team and swim team. She went on the become a Life Member of the College of Charleston Alumni Association and served on the Alumni Board for many years as well. She also represented the St. Andrews Exchange Club in the annual Azalea Festival. Following college, Dorothy worked as a research chemist at Westvaco and later worked for Wachovia Bank until she retired.

Dorothy was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving at one time as a regent of the Rebecca Motte Chapter. She was also a member of the Old Exchange Commission serving as Vice-Chairman for several years, a member of the Friends of the Old Exchange, the Orangeburg German-Swiss Genealogical Society. As a member of Old St. Andrew's Parish Church, Dorothy was the first woman to serve on the Vestry and served on the Altar Guild as chairman.

Dorothy is survived by two sons: Timothy Alan Rigsby (MaryBeth) of Ladson and Kenneth Mitchell Rigsby (Kathy) of James Island; daughter, Jennifer Rigsby Pustaver of Montgomery, Alabama; five grandchildren: Mallory N. Echols (Matt), Richard C. Pustaver, Emily A. Rigsby, Alexander M. Rigsby and Noah C. Rigsby; and three great-grandsons: Matthew R. Echols Jr., Charles R. Pustaver, and Mason N. Echols. Dorothy is preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Edward Moorer, Jr. and Robert Eugene Moorer.
