The family will receive friends in the West Ashley Chapel one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 pm.

Hartley was born in Hampton, SC on February 26, 1930 on a 100 acre dairy farm. He loved telling stories of milking cows before school. He was in the Army from 1953 to 1955, and later started his career at Charleston Army Depot, the Navy Yard, and Whitestack Towing. He loved being on the waterfront. He was a member of Riverbluff Baptist since 1955. He served in many capacities over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harriet Veronica Padgett and George T. Padgett; eight siblings; and the love of his life, Nettie B. Padgett. He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Plowden of Charleston and Tammy Eidem of Ladson; one brother, George Padgett of Hampton; four grandchildren, Laura Plowden of Charleston, Jeff Eidem of Columbia, Lee Eidem of Moncks Corner, and Sara Vela of North Charleston; and three great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Agape Hospice and caretaker Louann Ackerman for their love and support. They could not have completed this journey without you.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Hartley's honor to Riverbluff Baptist Church.
