Helen Carroll, a resident of Goose Creek, SC for 16 years, died on Tuesday, the 16th of May at Life Care Center of Charleston at the age of 93. Her funeral service will be held Friday, May 19, 2017, in Crowfield Baptist Church, 100 Hunters Lane, Goose Creek, SC 29445 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends, Thursday, May 18, 2017, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.

Born Helen Clevi Campbell on October 23, 1923 in Shelbyville, TX, daughter of the late E. T. Campbell and the late Della Lizzie Fleming Campbell. Helen spent her early adult years working in a World War II airplane factory in Fort Worth, TX. It was in Fort Worth that she met James Carvel Carroll, an Army sergeant stationed there. They were married and settled in Manchester, GA where they had a son and then moved to South Carolina where they had three daughters. Helen was very active in Dorchester Waylyn Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until she moved to Goose Creek in 2001 and has been active in Crowfield Baptist Church since that time.

An accomplished and avid seamstress, Helen took great pleasure in crafting useful gifts for her family and friends. Until her latest sickness she continued to do tailoring and crafting to fill her time. She also was an excellent cook and baker and was thrilled to pass on some of her skills to her great-granddaughters.

Helen is survived by her two daughters, Velda Carroll Phillips (Jesse) of Walterboro, SC and Ruby Linda Carroll May of Bristow, VA; daughter-in-law, Diane Ruotolo Carroll of Moncks Corner, SC; surrogate daughter, Bobbie Carole McMahan (Jim) of Sugar Valley, GA; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Carvel Carroll and son, James Douglas Carroll.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Crowfield Baptist Church, 100 Hunters Lane, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
