John Dewey Elliott of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina passed away peacefully on April 17, 2017 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He was born April 14, 1935 in Loris, South Carolina, and was the oldest son of the late Annie Mae Cook Elliott and Dewey Courtney Elliott. He married Barbara Ann Stroupe on January 28, 1961, at First Baptist Church in Walterboro, South Carolina. John graduated from Loris High School and went on to earn his BS from Clemson University. He later attended the Executive Graduate Education Program at Harvard Business School. After graduation, John moved to Walterboro, South Carolina and worked in the Agricultural Industry selling fertilizer, during his early career. During this time John met, fell in love with and later married his lifelong mate, Barbara Stroupe Elliott. John's early professional success lead to the couple and their three young daughters moving around the country, follow his advancing career. In the spring of 1974, the couple settled in Valdosta, Georgia. John sold his Agricultural Chemical Company to Griffin Corporation and became Vice President soon thereafter and later held the position of President for Griffin Agricultural Products. The couple joined Park Avenue United Methodist Church, where John was on the administrative board and other integral leadership roles in the church. He also affiliated and held leadership positions in many local organizations including, the Rotary Club and Toastmasters. He was also on the board for the March of Dimes and Boy Scouts of America. As a devoted father, John played an active role in his daughter's development, academics, and extracurricular activities. In 2000, John and Barbara moved to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina to semi-retire, travel, and to be closer to home and family. John developed new career goals, and began working in the commercial real estate market until his death.

John is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Ann Stroupe Elliott. He is survived by three daughters: Gwendolyn Elliott Wise and her husband Matthew Wise of Greenville, South Carolina, Monica Elliott Hudgens and her husband Dr. Edward Hudgens, III of Charleston, South Carolina, and Johnna Elliott Feild and her husband Martin Feild of Atlanta, Georgia. He had eight grandchildren including: Parker, Jackson, and Julianne Wise of Greenville, South Carolina, Annie and Courtney Hudgens of Charleston, South Carolina, and Tyler, Samantha, and Sarah Feild of Atlanta, Georgia. He was also preceded in death by his younger brother, Kelly Joe Elliott of Loris, South Carolina. He is also survived by his sister in-law, Sarah Floyd Elliott of Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina, his niece, Kelly Elliott Delk, and his nephew, Kinn Elliott, both of Columbia, South Carolina.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 23, 2017 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel from 3:00pm - 5:00pm. A private family service will be held and an interment will follow at Black Creek Cemetery in Walterboro, S.C. Flowers will be accepted at Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel, or memorials may be given to the cemetery fund at Black Creek Baptist Church. (4931 Black Creek Road, Walterboro, SC 29488)
