John William Ledford, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Betty Rackley Ledford entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 1, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 5, 2018 in Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy at11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends in the Church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.

John was born November 28, 1930 in Central, South Carolina, son of the late Joel T. Ledford and Olga Evatt Ledford. He finished high school at Greenwood, SC and college at Presbyterian College, Clinton, SC and received his law degree at the University of South Carolina. John was employed with State Farm Insurance for thirty-three years and retired in 1994 as a Claims Superintendent. He was the former president of the Charleston Claims Association, Chairman of the Charleston Inter-Company Arbitration Society, former president of the Harrison Acres Civic Club, member of the Elks and Civitan Clubs. He was an active member of Ashley River Baptist Church serving as a deacon, director of Adult Two Sunday School. He also served on the child development, finance, transportation and the constitution and bylaws committees and as president of the Church Corporation. John was also active in the Alzheimer's Association, leading fundraising activities for many years. He was a loving husband, taking care of his wife who suffered with Alzheimer's for eleven years.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy L. Funston (James) of Eagan, MN; son, David Ledford (Janet) of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren, Keeley Briaud, Taylor Ledford and Leah Ledford. In addition to his parents, and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Wyatt and Delma Ledford, sister, Jean Nalley.
