Julian Lawson Walters "Bubba", 52, husband of Karen Pietrzak Walters, entered into eternal rest on November 30th, 2018, following a courageous battle against brain cancer. He was the son of Carol Cox Marco and Julian H. Walters. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Lawson Walters are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1106 Fort Drive at 10:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal will follow in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road with Rosary beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Bubba was born in Charleston on October 9,1966. He graduated from North Charleston High School in 1984 and proudly joined the Army shortly after graduation. Following his service in the military, Bubba went on to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a North Charleston police officer. He retired as a lieutenant after 22 years of serving his beloved city. Bubba always credited his best friend and partner, Butch Barfield, for saving his life multiple times so that he could return home to his family every night. Butch graciously and lovingly continued to save Bubba, including during the most difficult moments of his battle with cancer. Upon retirement, you could still find Bubba patrolling the streets of North Charleston. He never met a stranger and took great pride in being "an original North Charlestonian."

Bubba's devotion to his family was extraordinary, as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Married to Karen for 32 years, he loved to brag to his three children about how he hit the jackpot. His children were his whole heart and his greatest pride. Bubba was an active member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

During his battle, he instantly gained a second family with the doctors and nurses at MUSC. Dr. Cachia, Dr. Rowland, Dr. Henderson, Dr. Jenrette, Ellen and the 9th floor nurses and staff always went above and beyond. He loved to make them laugh and give them nicknames.

In addition to his wife, Karen, he is survived by three children: Julian Walters, Jr. (Melinda), Tiffany Walters and Jeremy Walters; three sisters: Rhonda Shebelski (Paul), Sue-Von Walters and Diane Sankey; brother-in-law, Tim Curtis; four grandchildren: Noelle Walters, Julian Hart Walters, Nora Walters and Nadia Walters; grandmother, Urell Lutz; aunt, Julie Peeples (Buddy); and great aunt, Ronella Winchester.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Curtis.

Memorials may be made in Bubba's honor to Hollings Cancer Center, 843-792-9300, 86 Jonathan Lucas Street, Charleston, SC 29425.
