Louis Edward Costa, 87, husband of Mildred Hudson Costa entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2017. His funeral services will be held on Saturday January 21, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. at James Island Christian Church, 12 Sawgrass Road, James Island. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception will follow in the home of Dr. Louis E. Costa II. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.

Louis "Bubber" Costa was born January 16, 1930 in Charleston, SC son of Mars Caldwell Costa and Eloise Edna Vonderlieth Costa Wilcox. He began his lifelong service to Christ at St. Peter's Church in Charleston. He graduated from The Citadel in 1951 and served in Korea as a U.S. Army Field Artillery Officer; subsequently, attaining the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. Louis was employed by SC National Bank, then The Citadel Development Foundation, where he served a term as the Brigadier Club President. He then became Vice President of Triple "S" Wholesale Manufacturing Company until his retirement.

Louis served many years on the Vestry of St. James Episcopal Church. He was a charter member of James Island Christian Church, where he served on the Board of Elders. He was a faithful member of the Exchange Club of Charleston and received the Andrew Award in 1999. Louis was a long time active member of the James Island Yacht Club, where he participated for many years as skipper of his JI One Design.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred "Mickey" Hudson Costa; his son, Dr. Louis Edward Costa II (Cindy Costa); his daughter, Sheri Costa Belk (Greg Belk); his son, Dr. Milton Sherman Costa (Beth Bolchoz Costa); 12 grandchildren who fondly knew him as "Poppi": Jenny Costa Honeycutt, Hudson Gregory Belk, Ashley Costa Gochnauer, Hannah Belk Lang, Christopher Sherman Costa, Louis Edward Costa, III, Harrison Lee Belk, Amanda Costa Kimsey, Joshua Caleb Costa, James Edward Costa, Christian Caroline Costa, and Hayley Elizabeth Belk; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Louis had a wonderful, full life and was the first to tell you his life was a product of God's grace. His legacy is aptly expressed in Proverbs 20:7 "The righteous man who walks in integrity, how blessed are his children after him."
