Dr. Myron H. Lutz, M.D., 79, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Judith Cohen Lutz passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side Sunday, October 22, 2017. Dr. Lutz was born June 26, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Morris D. Lutz and Rose Greenblatt Lutz. He graduated from Columbia University and New York University College of Medicine. He interned at Philadelphia General Hospital. He completed a four year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Bronx Municipal Hospital. From there Dr. Lutz served two years in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He completed a one year Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center and a second year of Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. Dr. Lutz was Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. He had multiple appointments in the Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology Departments at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) from 1973-1977. Dr. Lutz ran a successful private practice in OB/GYN and GYN Oncology from 1977-2005. He was the consummate healer of patients and their families. Over the years he received countless letters of appreciation from patients. As an example of the healer that he was, a patient wrote "You are a person who has given so many gifts. You gave the gift that someone cannot buy, you gave us something you cannot wrap, you gave us something you cannot say, and you gave us something that we really cannot see and that special gift was hope."

Dr. Lutz was a board member of multiple civic organizations including the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Charleston and Trident Academy. He was extremely active in and passionate about a variety of public health issues including smoking cessation, adolescent education, senior health education and childhood literacy.

In addition to medicine he was a very loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family. He also loved gardening, karate, fishing, photography, tap dancing, drums, boating and all outdoor activities.

Dr. Lutz is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy; two sons: Mark S. Lutz (Carla) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Ken I. Lutz (Amy) of Charleston, SC; daughter, Sheri L. Barnett (David) of Framingham, MA; four grandchildren; John, Zack, Sam and Hannah; and two sisters: Gloria Greifer and Barbara Gerstenblatt.
