Robert D Stief of Mount Pleasant, SC, formerly of Seabrook Island, SC and Charleston, WV, died on January 6, 2018. He was 91 years old. Mr. Stief was a retired chemical engineer and a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He had been Director of Engineering for the Chemicals and Plastics Division of Union Carbide Corporation. He served in the Army Air Force in WWII. He traveled the world in his line of work for Carbide. He retired to his farm in Mason County, WV before moving to Seabrook Island in 1991. He enjoyed boating and was a private pilot.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Beatrice Adams Stief. He is also survived by two daughters, Audrey Bernstein (Alan) and Nancy Douglas (Bart) and four grandchildren, Andrew Bernstein (Amelia), Katherine Douglas, John Douglas, and Caroline Bernstein; and two great-grandsons, Hayes Bernstein and Luca Schalaudek.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Riverview Cemetery in Russell Township, OH.
