Robert William Simpson (Rob), 66, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.

Robert was born to Robert James Simpson and Gladys Langdon Simpson Johnson on January 10, 1951 in London, England. A graduate of Spur High School, he studied at the University of London International Programmes before immigrating to the Charleston, SC area in 1975, which became home.

He met Susan Bowers Cunningham in the summer of 1975 and they married on August 4, 1981 in Edgware, Middlesex, England.

Rob was passionate about his work in the film industry and was on the cusp of retirement after thirty years. He was an active member of the National Brotherhood of Teamsters, and currently working on the production of Mr. Mercedes, written by Stephen King. His favorite pastimes included golf, tennis, boating on the creek and entertaining family and friends, especially with his varied musical talent.

Known for his positive outlook on life, sense of humor and being the "life of the party", he will be greatly missed by family, friends and co-workers. In addition to being survived by his parents, Robert James Simpson of London, England, and Gladys Langdon Simpson Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, he leaves his wife of thirty-six years, Susan Bowers Cunningham Simpson, his children, Chelsea Simpson of West Ashley, Brooke, Taylor and Brittany Simpson of Mt. Pleasant, and step-son Shannon Cunningham of Summerville. Rob is also survived by his step-sister Debbie Simpson, and step-brothers, Brian Simpson and Gary Simpson, all of London, England.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant. Relatives and friends are also invited to his Celebration of Life Event Party, Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 3 to 9 PM at Alhambra Hall, 131 Middle Street, Mt. Pleasant, SC, 3:00 until 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI South Carolina, P.O. Box 1267, Columbia, SC 29202 ( or to the charity of your choice.
