Ray and I have been friends with Genny for over 30 years, starting when she first started working for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Alexandria, Virginia. Ray and I have been friends with Genny for over 30 years, starting when she first started working for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Alexandria, Virginia. I will fondly remember going out to lunch with her (and the late Gerry Ketch) and rushing to her car so that I could get dibs for siting in the BACK seat. (Genny had a heavy foot when she drove and had a few speeding tickets to show for it.) Genny was also a remarkable hostess and made the most wonderful dinners from Southern Living recipes. (She had a complete set.) For my birthdays, she would make my favorite Caesar Salad, French Onion Soup and Chocolate Mousse for dessert. We would sit around sipping wine and laugh about things like her ironing her sheets or her husband and son's boxers. I will miss all the in-person and telephone conversations we had over the years and especially her friendship during some of my challenging times.
Genny was a great friend and Ray and I will forever be grateful that we were able to visit her in March before the pandemic shut the country down. It had been 9 years since we had last seen her in Virginia, so to find her settled back in South Carolina in a beautiful facility with loving family members looking after her well-being was heart lifting.
Genny, thanks for showing this "Northerner" what great Southern hospitality and friendship is.

Miss Genny started out as a neighbor, but grew into a very, special friend. I enjoyed the stories she would tell about life in SC growing up, traveling with Big Phil and her son, and all of her advice and tips! I was Honored to know her. I'm so glad my 3 daughters got to meet her too. She will be missed and loved forever.

Ginny was a good friend to me here at Somerby of Mt. Pleasant. Lovely lady. She will be missed. God bless all her family members in the days ahead.
